PARKINSON'S DISEASE
It is a progressive disorder of CNS with both motor and non-motor symptoms. The onset is gradual, basically after 50 years of age. The cause is disturbance in the DOPAMINE system of basal ganglia. A dopamine deficiency can be due to a drop in the amount of dopamine made by the body or due to reduction of its receptors in the brain.
-:SYMPTOMS:-
A) MOTOR SYMPTOMS- rigidity, bradykinesia, tremors, muscle weakness, festinating gait, in later stages postural instability.
B) NON-MOTOR SYMPTOMS- sensory symptoms, dysphasia, speech disorder, cognitive function, depression, anxiety, autonomic dysfunction, sleep disorders.
PARKINSON-PLUS SYNDROME
It is a group of neurodegenerative disorders which affects the Subtantia Nigra and produce parkinsonian symptoms along with other neurological signs.Basically all the symptoms are same as that of parkinsons disease so make it very difficult to distinguish from parkinsons disease. APOMORPHINE TEST:- In this test, the patient with parkinson-plus syndrome does not show any measurable improvement from the administration of anti-parkinson medications such as LEVODOPA (L-DOPA) therapy.
